Research Project:
Defining Cell Types and Connectivity in Human Fetal Cortex
My research in the Geschwind lab centers upon producing a molecular taxonomy of cell types in the human fetal cortex. While the general cell types that make up the cortex are known, the many subtypes that make up these broad classes, where they are located, and how they connect with other cells is unknown. Essentially our goal is to generate the parts list of the developing human brain. This has profound implications for both basic as well as disease biology, and adds value to all existing gene expression datasets from bulk tissue.
